Hazard Tree Evaluation in Port Orchard, WA

Worried about a tree on your Port Orchard property? As part of your free estimate, Corey will look at it with you - the lean, the cracks, the dead top, what it could hit - and tell you straight whether it needs to come down.

An honest look at the tree you're worried about

Most hazard evaluations start the same way: a homeowner notices a tree that doesn't look right and isn't sure whether to do something about it. A Douglas fir that's started to lean. A western red cedar with a dead top. A bigleaf maple with a crack running up the trunk. On lots across Port Orchard and the Kitsap Peninsula, these are the trees people lose sleep over - especially the ones close to the house.

We look at that tree with you as part of your free estimate. Corey walks the property, stands back and looks at the whole tree, checks the base, and tells you what he sees and what he'd do about it. No pressure to take down a healthy tree, and no pretending a dangerous one is fine.

An honest note on what this is - and isn't

Corey is not an ISA Certified Arborist. If you need a formal written tree risk assessment - for a permit, an HOA, a lender, or a dispute - hire a certified arborist for that report, and we'll tell you when you need one. What we do is a hands-on, on-site evaluation and the removal work that follows when a tree actually needs to come down.

What we look at

  • Lean - how much, which direction, and what's in the way if it goes.
  • Cracks in the trunk or in the major limbs.
  • A dead or dying top, or large dead limbs hanging in the canopy.
  • Fungus or mushrooms at the base - a sign of decay in the root system.
  • Soil heaving around the roots, which can mean the tree is starting to lift.
  • What the tree could hit - your roof, a neighbor's, a power line, a driveway.

A tall western hemlock with a dead top leaning over a bedroom is a clear concern. A red alder at the back of a wide lot is a different conversation. We sort out the difference with you.

How we do it

We come out, look at the tree from a few angles, and check the base and the ground around it. We talk through what we see and answer your questions. If the tree needs to come down, we give you a straight price for the removal and the haul-away. If it just needs a limb or some deadwood taken out, we'll say that. If it's fine, we'll tell you it's fine.

What's included

  • An on-site evaluation as part of your free estimate.
  • A plain-language explanation of what's going on with the tree.
  • A straight recommendation - removal, trimming, or leave it alone.
  • A price for any work you decide to have done, with debris hauled away.
  • Insured.

Some cities, shorelines, and steep slopes require a permit before a tree can be removed. If your tree falls under those rules, we check before we cut and can help with the application.

Quick checklist - 1 of 5

Is any part of the tree touching a power line?

This is a quick checklist, not a certified tree risk assessment. If you need a formal written assessment, hire an ISA Certified Arborist.

Frequently asked questions

Is the evaluation really free?

Yes. Looking at a tree you're worried about is part of the free estimate. Corey walks your property with you and tells you what he sees and what he'd do about it.

Can you give me a written tree risk report?

No. Corey is not an ISA Certified Arborist. If you need a formal written tree risk assessment - for a permit, an HOA, a lender, or a dispute - hire a certified arborist for that report, and we'll tell you when you need one. We do the hands-on evaluation and the removal work.

What makes a tree a hazard?

Lean, cracks in the trunk or major limbs, a dead top, fungus or mushrooms at the base, soil heaving around the roots, and what the tree could hit if it came down. A tall Douglas fir leaning over a bedroom is a different calculation than an alder at the back of a big lot.

What if you decide the tree is fine?

Then we tell you it's fine. We're not going to talk you into taking down a healthy tree. If it just needs a limb or some deadwood removed, we'll say that instead.

Do you charge to come out and look?

No. The evaluation is part of the free estimate across our whole service area - Port Orchard, Bremerton, Silverdale, Belfair, Gig Harbor, and the rest of the Kitsap Peninsula.
